A strong initiative by a small group of Town Councillors and Council staff is going to bring a series of exciting new events to the town’s Civic Centre. Cllr Chris Smith said “The Theatre within the Civic Centre is a wonderful facility for the town. Our aim is to upgrade the facility and bring it back into regular use with shows and events for the benefit of the whole town. It will strengthen the evening economy of Whitchurch to the benefit of pubs and restaurants. We’ve coined the brand name “Live@TheCivic”, and we also have a new website: www.thecivic.org.uk.”
Twenty events are planned for the year ahead, kicking off with an amazing ABBA Tribute Band concert on Friday 28th April by ABBA REVIVAL. Abba Revival was recognized by the music industry as the ‘OFFICIAL No #1’ Abba Tribute Show in 2013. “Everyone loves ABBA” says Acting Town Clerk Zoë Dean, “so there is no better way to commence 2017’s
Live@TheCivic season. Tickets are on sale now at the Civic Centre’s Community Hub for £14.00 each. All seats numbered, so the sooner you get your tickets, the better the seats you can secure. “Deputy Mayor Cllr Tony Neville said “Our full programme will be published later in the spring, but I promise you there will be something for everyone.” Cllr Bev Duffy added “We’ll have children’s shows, comedy nights, band nights, more tribute bands, a Mystic Medium and even something classical for opera buffs. We might even bring bingo back to The Civic. But why don’t you tell us what you would like to see? Go to the website www.thecivic.org.uk and use the feedback form with your suggestions”.
Live@TheCivic needs volunteers to help with the running of the shows. All volunteers get FREE ADMISSION to the Shows on the nights they are working. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact us via the website.
